Fortification and the Use of Active Ingredients in Human Foods

Mars offers a range of foods that have been fortified with nutrients or enhanced with active ingredients to support consumers in meeting their nutritional needs and optimizing their wellbeing. When adding essential nutrients or active ingredients to our products, we will always do so in a manner that is safe, legal, genuine, relevant and responsible.  

We abide by all applicable national and regional food standards, using Codex Alimentarius for guidance alongside recommendations laid out by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization. Further, when enhancing a product with nutrients or active ingredients, we consider the needs of the target consumer population, the product’s intended use, as well as the potential contribution of the product to the consumer’s overall diet. In the case of our treats and snacks portfolio, we will only enhance products with fortifying nutrients or active ingredients in line with strict internal guardrails governing the overall nutritional profile of the product.
